STEINBICHLER COMET 5, 1.4M
Edico a.s., Slovakia
Edico is a company offering products in the IT area, IT solutions and data processing which is a vast area of occupation. Many applications cover historical and archeological areas. In order to preserve cultural heritage, Edico digitizes and files various types of historical artifacts. One of them (and among the most remarkable) is The Venus of Vestonice. The task was oriented on virtual study on created 3D model, e.g. its shape, surface tracking and tools that were used in its making process.
STEINBICHLER - SOLUTION AND PRODUCT
The STEINBICHLER COMET 5 sensor is a measuring system able to perform measurements for such applications as checking dimensions, shapes and position tolerances of objects from simple geometric elements through to freeform surfaces. Obtaining data is now quicker because of shorter acquisition times. One of the greatest advantages of the system is its mobility according to its rugged body and case.
RESULT / CUSTOMER BENEFIT
The requirements in this task were to achieve highly precise measurements of an historical artifact from which a high-quality 3D model could be obtained. Thanks to the measurement with high precision (7-8 μm) and resolution (75-150 μm) the measured and post-processed spatial data resulted in a very good 3D surface model which can be studied even to the smallest details. This can help us to understand the techniques and skills of our ancestors.
But there are other great aspects besides keeping and maintaining our cultural heritage in a digital form for further study and for the next generations. For example, the easy sharing of these data between historical, cultural or archeological institutions all around the world.
