WHICH USE HAS THE INTRODUCTION OF A LASER SCANNING SYSTEM

ADVANTAGES OF THE POINT CLOUD GENERATION AND AREAS OF APPLICATION

For a very long time, the measurement of components using a touch probe is the state of technology. The advantage of this method is that this technology has been established over years and therefore it is with adequate experience and practice values widespread.

Automatic scanning systems with a touch probe are accurate, and so they are an excellent instrument for geometry measurements. Especially in the area of precision measuring techniques, they can measure geometric errors, such as the roundness of drill holes. Due to this long-standing use and the fact that there weren´t any revolutionary developments in the area of tactile measurement during the last time, many standard specifications are available for this technology which guarantee a very good objective comparability.

This whitepaper describes the differences between the currently conventional method of scanning with the help of a fixed touch probe and the production of point clouds using a high-performance ZEISS Optotechnik laser scanner.
